Has anyone here, ever built a single flue pipe using a method similar to a double burdon?
The reason I ask.... I decided to do just that, and the result was very surprising.
I made a pipe that bends back on itself using the back piece common to both chambers. The pipe's base and open end are even. This would cause a tuning problem if mounting the pipe in a standard fashion.
The pipe's voice is great (open and stopped) and it's length is a little over half of what a straight pipe would require (estimated).
I did this for a test to see if a bass pipe could be put into a shorter area, and so far it worked very well, to my surprise.
There is a drawback to the method I used. The pipe could never stand vertical without a base. I designed the pipe to be horizontal.
I'm not sure if the pipe has additional harmonics or something else is happening, but at this point, I believe the pipe to have a better voice than the previous three pipes I have built. (Not saying they are correct)
Anyone have an opinion or suggestion?

Actually, I went ahead and built a few "folded" pipes, and all of them worked (open and stopped).
It was fun to experiment with building them. I will say it is much easier to build a straight pipe.
I haven't had much time to work on my organ. I've been busy with business, and with building the Midi player. I have other projects I'm working on as well, which deal with my business.
Maybe I'll get some spare time this summer to work on my organ.

The idea is very similar to the Haskell pipss, where the Pipe length is shorter than the speaking length (normally for Base pipes). This can be used for flue and read pipes. More information can be had from http://www.organstops.org/_apps/HaskellBasses.html
