Any tips on the best way to buy quantities of solenoids for MIDI valves? I am in the USA and searching for a source. Being on a fixed income (disabled) with limited resources doesn't help the situation. I need to get the best deal possible. I would very much like to get an SD Midi Controller at some point, but not with the current exchange rate of our dollar. I dearly love building organs.

Thank you so much for the reply, Chris I didn't know about the Goldmine supplier. It had not come up on any of my searches. Your Palm and Midi converter board are quite interesting also. That is just what I was thinking about instead of a Data filer with floppy disks. My computer doesn't have a floppy drive. I have a Palm Tx with a 2gb SD chip. I may try to build my own controller board. I have looked at several sites for info. You have a very nice website. I spent a couple hours there yesterday and learned quite a bit. Also, how did you add your custom avatar under your name here on the forum? Thanks again and I may have a few more questions along the way if you don't mind.

Hello Jim
Thank you very much for nice comments about my web site. It is made for helping peoples !
You can have a look here to see if your Palm is compatible with itty midi player: http://www.ittymidi.com/compatibility.asp . If not compatible, the best way is perhaps to buy one on eBay for a few dollars.....Mine is a Palm Vx, I think 7 years old but working well for this use. Don't worry for memory, 8 Mb is sufficient to stock more than 200 midi tunes !
Your avatar must be already somewhere on internet to put it in your profile, so you have just to give the adress. Mine is on my website. I know there are many sites you can upload pictures, perhaps somebody here can help ?
No problem for any question if I can reply !!!

| I've succesfully put the photo on the web in photobucket. It shows up on my profile, but I can't seem to get it as my avatar. Only the generic gallery is available to use |

Thank you, Phil. I just thought I wasn't smart enough to do it. I am really impressed with this forum. I have already learned several things. I find it intensely interesting. |

Hello Jim !
I forgot for solenoids you can ask to Peter Hood who sold me the little solenoids for my organ. His site is : http://www.rollcutter.com/ That was surplus, perhaps he has got no more, but you can ask him by email. His litle solenoids are very cheap and strong enough to make direct valves for pipe organ.
regards
Chris

You can also see the little solenoids from Peter Hood that Chris refers to in one of my accordion video on youtube.

| This is really a message to Chris Blanchard....... I've read your posts on the AOBG site and your web site. I am planning to drive my organ solenoids with a j-omega midi board and I was very interested to read that you were using a Palm as a data filer. I have an old palm, and so have downloaded the ittyMIDI trial software. My question is - How do you interface the Palm to the j-Omega board. Thanks Ian (Glen), and apologies to the Administrator if I should have started a new thread. |

Hello Ian, welcome to the group. Did you check out the ittyMIDI compatibility list on their site to see if your palm will work? There is a converter box to take the serial output of the palm to a MIDI input for the controller board. ittyMIDI sells one, but I have seen some circuit layouts on the web if you want to DIY. |

| Hi Jim, Yes my Palm is compatible - it is a IIIc. I'd like to try DIY if you could point me in the right direction. Regards, Ian. |

Hello Ian, sorry for no fast reply
Here is the link for schematics to make very simple MIDI interface circuit : http://www.elby-designs.com/midi-interfaces/midi-about.htm It changes the serial outpout of the Palm craddle into a MIDI port If you prefer you can buy on the IttyMidi site a special serial/MIDI cable. Hope this will be usefull.

Hi Chris, Will the simplest interface on this site - MIDI-IFD - work satisfactorily? It is the interface that only uses 2 diodes, 3 resistors, 1 capacitor and a transistor. Thanks, Ian |
