Hi folks, just wondered if anyone could tell me how to write a risk assessment for my 20 note john smith organ & cart please as I've been asked provide a paper copy for my first outing in May. We have them written for our miniature traction engine and army lorry but I'm a bit stumped on the organ (the main risk as I can see is someone harming it and me finding out! ha ha). Any help, advise or a copy of one that I can adapt to suit would be gratefully received. best wishes to you all Heather

Well, you could run your cart wheel over someone's toes.
And if you let children crank, some will require a stool, and might fall off.
And you could play music so offensive that a riot ensues.
The biggest risk is probably bringing you transport onto the show grounds.
In the USA no one asks us about insurance. We got LAWYERS, not nanny-state to worry about.
I can see that with traditional large organs there are some real, but not large, risks involving belts, gears, and so forth in the drive systems. And if employees are involved, the probable need to supply hearing protection.

Many thanks Wallace - a good starting point to get my brain on the right track, personally I think its getting a little over the top over here with all the new regs etc, but I have to comply if I want to show the organ.

I hope you will pass along any information you collect, and a copy - or near copy - of the risk assessment you collect.
While those of us outside the UK may not have your requirements, we all have the same risks as far as actual damages to ourselves or others are concerned.

I have now completed my first draft of a self-Risk Assessment Form; and uploaded it to the AOBG website WWW.AOBG.CO.UK.
This is a downloadable self Risk Assessment Form that one can use has is, or has a guide, or just a starting point to assess the risk of your exhibit. Microsoft Office Word will be needed to open the form, when you've downloaded the form and its opened, just print out and fill the details in.
I used Microsoft Office Word 97 so will run on any above 97.
I have only covered the basics concerning an exhibit that an event that any organizer may be looking for.
I hope this helps with all the new forms we has exhibitors are faced with.
If you would like me to change or add something or edit something that you may not find appropriate just let me know.
Please remember this is a starting point and not the definitive.
Please let me know if it’s of any use.

Many thanks Phil, your help is much appreciated, I have now downloaded a copy and will adapt to suit as I think I need two versions, as I also intend to show the organ as part of an awning display where all items are related to mechanical music.
best wishes
