LAVENHAM 2008 AMATEUR ORGAN BUILDERS SUMMER SOIRE (HOLIDAY) As many of you will know there has been an excellent fete held at this location for a number of years to which more and more small organs have been attending. Unfortunately this will not be held in 2008 but the Amateur Organ Builders have been invited to use the camping facility for their own event. The date will be 27th July to 3rd August. This not an organised rally in the usual sense but just a group of friends as guests of the site owners Lavenham in Suffolk is a really interesting little village, a real tourist attraction in fact with its abundance of original half timbered houses. The camping field is right on the edge of things literally a 5 minute walk into town, yet totally shielded by tall trees from civilization. It was originally a farm but now it is just a grassy field with just a few chickens and the families children. This is somewhere to bring your Grandchildren, I intend to. Although it is not a registered camp site there are two nice flush loos, a disposal point and fresh water, it is a very nice place to just relax amongst friends, which is the main aim of this gathering. The only restriction is the rather sharp entrance gate which could be difficult for very large caravans or motor homes ( a steam roller has managed it). I will organise at least some trips during the week and with a large tent available we will probably be able to get some guest speaker to give us talks on our favourite subject. As guests of the owner we will only have a very modest donation ( £3 per night per van) to make for use of the facilities but only on condition that they can join in with our activities. Participants should come prepared to join in with our home brewed evening entertainments. At the end of the week we will have a party night with an organised group meal . On Sunday 3rd August we will hold an open day for the public playing our organs as a mini organ festival which will hopefully raise money for local charities. It looks as if we will be welcomed to play in the town and at the local Church, watch this space. The attendance times are flexible come when you like leave when you like as long as you are there for the public day. The event is not a week long organ rally and trailer type fair , or even loud ,self playing organs should not be entered. Hand turned Amateur built, or even still under construction, will be in the fore. Professionally built hand turned organs are not excluded. Also invited will be a small group of miniature steam enthusiasts who seem to share a lot of our funny ways. In the same vicinity is Bressingham where small organs always had an annual event, but not recently. Well this has changed and for anyone interested the Amateur Organ Builders have been invited to join in with the Miniature Steamers in 2008. They hold a weeks gathering at Bressingham using the large camping field during the week following our Lavenham event. Like us they are all enthusisatic and have a jolly good time when they get together. The week there ends with them providing a Miniature Steam weekend for the Bressingham Steam and Garden Centre which we will be included in. There is no fee for the basic camping and a weeks pass for the steam railways is provided. If you are interested in either or both these events please apply to me by letter with a SAE giving your contact landline phone number and email address if you have one.
