Hello organ builders. I'm making a rank of violin pipes. The lips have been attached with tape. They are positioned so when blowing softly into the pipe they speak well and when blown with more force they also speak well about one octave higher. When the harmonic break is attached only the lower note speaks when blowing soft or hard. I think this is what I want. My question: What needs to happen to create the violin sound? Bob, You did make the pipes very narrow? Without the frein, the sound should be very scratchy and unstable, jumping from high to low. The frein should make it stable at the lower pitch. It can be very tricky to adjust. Understand that you're unlikely to confuse a violin pipe with a "real" violin. Compared to a flute pipe however, they will have a very stringy sound with many more harmonics. Hope this helps. Bob Meyer
