I see that John Wale is now able to supply an Output Booster Module which will enable greater loads to be put on his boards, raising the current that can be handled from .5amp to 1.5amp.
The photograph on his site shows the module plugged in at right angles to the board this might be a problem where boards are mounted in a limited space for height. I wonder if the module could be used with a short lead as an alternative to being plugged directly into the socket on the board.
The use of this module in one of the sockets will enable devices needing more current to be used.
Details of the Module are on John's website.

HI arthur,

It wouldn’t be difficult to make up some kind of extension for the device as you can see from the pic’s.

OBM-1

OBM-1 used with an MTP-7

I am in the process of Midifying my two Street Organs and room for additional installations is not plentiful. My Wale boards are in enclosures which will be clipped to the back of the organs when in use so I will be looking to fit OBMs on the back of my enclosures
The setup as is, is working OK but I am mindful to instal solenoids on the registers, for this I will probably have to use stronger magnets to cope with the extra load hence my interest in the OBM1.
I will need to rearrange the connections on the board to leave one chip free for the circuits needing extra power, I should then be able to meet my needs with one OBM on each board.
I still need to work out the circuit for the registers, I understand that I will need two solenoids one for on and one for off, with switches to cut the power when the registers are positioned.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is your registers manual? (Pull drawers)
If you need to use only 2 it may be easier to build a separate standalone registers switch board.

Hi Phil
Both of my organs are built traditional with bar chests, the registers are as you say manual draw bars.
One organ has two registers the other has six.
My main concern about registers operated via the midi file is knowing the music well enough to know which rank of pipes to engage and the need to go through each midi file to set the registers.
At the moment with manual operation the registers can be put on or off with a pull or push of a knob.
The changing of registers can be overdone, another area where I am cautious.
The availability of suitable Midi files for 26 note (Ian Alderman scale)organs are not easy to obtain, I hear that there is plenty of music that can be downloaded but it still needs to be arranged for the 26 scale. This needs more expertise than I have, it is probably less of a problem if you have a fully chromatic instrument.
Having the above considerations why go Midi?
My view is, to reduce the weight and bulk of music rolls, no need to rewind, quick selection of individual tunes and the challenge of fitting a midi system myself.
My conversion allows both rolls and midi to be played.
I am presently working on the making of a fully chromatic instrument which will be midi operated.

Regards

Arthur
