A quote from the cover of the Alan Pell DVD, "Behind the scenes look at one of the few remaining mechanical organ builders" For those who have seen the inside of a wood working / organ builders workshop and the ones who have not, this DVD is both informative and entertaining. Alan is renowned for the standard of finish and the sound of his organs, this DVD shows you some of the ways this has been achieved.
It is a family business with Alan's wife taking an active part in the workshop, Rob has a role of assembler and tuner (I hope that I am not under selling Rob) and Katrina who looks after the admin, post ect and not forgetting Alan who awakes at all hours to get things done. To say any more will detract from the entertainment and learning that can be got from the DVD. When I first ordered this DVD I had in mind that I would be learning the secrets of an organ builder, not at all, read the title again "The Secret Life of an Organ Builder" I found it very entertaining and informative and one of the few DVDs that I have played several times.
I must add that I do not own a Pell Organ nor do I have any connection with the company, although I have always admired the workmanship that obviously goes into building the organs.
The DVD for me a worth while buy.
